QR (“Quick Response”) codes (as pictured top), are two-dimensional bar codes that you might have started noticing on web sites, in magazines or on products when you go shopping. They allow you to quickly scan them with your camera and either launch a web site, show product info, display plain text, send an SMS message and much more. This tutorial will show you how to read and use them with your iPhone – using free software.
- Start out by launching the App Store on your iPhone.
- Run a search for the word neoreader.
- Select NeoReader by NeoMedia Technologies.
- Install NeoReader as you would any other iPhone app.
- The installation shouldn’t take long. Open NeoReader once it has completed.
- The first time you open NeoReader, it will take you directly to the Settings screen. Feel free to adjust these as you see fit. Once you’re done, tap the Scan button at the bottom of the screen.
- Now tap anywhere on the screen to scan a QR code.
- Point your iPhone camera at a QR code and NeoReader will pick it up right away. In the example screenshot below, my iPhone read a QR code that will open a link to www.simplehelp.net. Tap the Continue button to confirm the action (go to the web site, view the text – whatever the QR code was designed to do.
- That’s it – you’re done! Any time you want to scan a QR code, just whip out your iPhone and launch NeoReader.
